The beaches
Five minutes from the villa, the Tiahura coast has sandy beaches and sunsets. To the north, Ta'ahiamanu faces the mountains of Opunohu Bay; to the east, Temae is known for its white sand.
Moorea, French Polynesia
Tahiti's sister island
Heart-shaped Moorea lies half an hour by boat from Papeete. Its volcanic peaks drop into a lagoon ringed by the reef, and two deep bays, Cook's and Opunohu, cut into the north coast.
The villa sits in the hills above Tiahura, on the west side, where the sun sets over the ocean. Beaches, restaurants and boat trips are a few minutes' drive away.
Getting here
Several companies, including Aremiti and Terevau, sail every day from Papeete to the Vaiare ferry terminal, with regular departures from morning to evening. By air, the flight from Tahiti to Temae airport takes about fifteen minutes. Timetables change with the seasons, so check the operators' websites before you book.
A car is the easiest way to explore the island, and there's a rental agency right at the entrance of the residence.

At 240 metres, the viewpoint takes in both bays and Mount Rotui. Trails start from the car park, through mape forest and valley.

From the lookout, a trail climbs through the forest to the Three Coconut Trees Pass. Wear good shoes: the ground gets slippery quickly after rain.

On the road to the lookout, the Opunohu agricultural school sells its jams, fresh fruit juices and Moorea ice cream on weekdays. The estate is open to visitors.

A mask and snorkel are all you need to discover the coral gardens. Many boat trips leave from Tiahura, out to the motu and the reef.
Roughly July to October
Every year, humpback whales leave Antarctica to calve in the warm waters of Polynesia. From the terrace, you can watch for their spouts offshore. To see them at sea, choose an approved operator: whale watching is strictly regulated to protect them.
